Frisky Fiction at the Ripped Bodice

Ever wish there was a bookstore devoted to romance stories? After all, there are bookstores devoted to mysteries, or filled with nothing but science fiction and fantasy. Well, sisters Bea and Leah Koch decided it was time for a romance bookstore. With the eye-catching name of The Ripped Bodice, their shelves are filled with all kinds of romance titles, from the chaste and demure to the naughty and racy. They have set up shop in Culver City, California, so if you aren’t a lucky romance reader in that area . . . it could be time for a road trip! You can’t order online (yet), but personally, I’m hoping for a cool t-shirt design to come along at some point.

In all seriousness, it’s high time that there was a bookstore like this (in my opinion). Statistics show that romance is the best-selling genre in North America, and those of us who work in libraries can tell you that these books fly off our shelves.

So, cheers to you, Bea and Leah!

And yes, the April 2016 issue of Oprah has a feature about this bookstore — how cool is that?
